Odds & Ends…

Most of the Spill‘s cartoon library is devoted to collections by cartoonists (either their own collection or in a group), and bound copies of The New Yorker (they take up a lot of space, but it’s so worthwhile).

The smallest section of the library contains illustrated books by New Yorker cartoonists. Somewhere on this site I believe I explained that the idea of collecting illustrated books became overwhelming (for me). So I stopped, mostly. The latest addition (within the past six months) is the book shown to the left. Couldn’t resist.

A few hours ago, while standing in front of the illustrated books, I began to feel they were being underappreciated (by me) so I took a photo of some of them. I think it’s a nice combo picture. A real Spill Hall Of Fame crowd:

Top row, left to right (I’m just naming the cartoonists): Helen Hokinson, Alajalov, Jack Ziegler, and Steinberg.

Lower shelf: Arnie Levin, Carl Rose, Roberta MacDonald, George Booth, and William Steig.

Another day I’ll prop up some more, composed of a completely different crew.
