Cover Revealed For Edward Sorel’s Memoir, “Profusely Illustrated” 

Looking forward to Edward Sorel’s memoir, out this Fall from Knopf. Having had the opportunity to read an early draft, I can say we’re in for a treat!

A 1988 Charles Saxon Monograph

Dipping into one of the boxes of materials recently donated to the Spill, I came across this wonderful monograph, Charles Saxon: Sketches & Drawings, printed in December of 1988 by Robert M. Jones at The Glad Hand Press in Stamford, Connecticut. There were 70 copies printed. The text is by Mr. Jones (I’m not showing all of it here, nor am I showing all of the drawings).

Charles Saxon (self portrait from Best Cartoons of the Year 1947) Born in Brooklyn, November 13, 1920, died in Stamford, Conn., December 6, 1988. New Yorker work: 1943 – 1991 (2 drawings published posthumously). Key collection: One Man’s Fancy ( Dodd, Mead, 1977). One of the giants of the New Yorker’s stable of artists. He could do it all: covers, spreads, single panels.
