The Monday Tilley Watch takes a glancing look at the art and artists of the latest issue of The New Yorker

The Cartoonists & Cartoons
Eight cartoons, eleven cartoonists (Roz Chast has a Sketchbook; Hilary Campbell has a Sketchpad; Paul Karasik has the Caption Contest drawing). One duo, that we know of — the Spill counts duos as one cartoonist. No newbies. The longest active contributing cartoonist in the issue is Ms. Chast, whose first New Yorker drawing appeared in July of 1978.
You can see the issue’s cartoons here.
The Rea Irvin Talk Watch
Back in the Spring of 2017, the Rea Irvin Talk design shown below was 86ed, and replaced by — if you can believe it — a redrawn version (not redrawn by Mr. Irvin, who passed away in 1972). The Spill continues to hope Mr. Irvin’s classic design is returned (this issue, with style and design as its underlying theme, presented a golden opportunity).
