From The Sports Desk: Jason Chatfield On The New Yorker vs New York Magazine
— Jason Chatfield will be covering New Yorker baseball news for the Spill, sending in dispatches all season from the field. Here’s his report on the June 7th 2022 game:
The New Yorker softball team played their first match for the season last night, albeit in the pouring rain.
We were tied in the bottom of the 9th after 2 hours of play, when, in the rain-soaked final moments, an [expletive deleted] from the hockey team setting up on the same field decided to plant a parking cone behind second base, in protest. They had a permit that had them taking up half the field from 9pm: it was 8:59pm. We had to call the game early, right before the end– but not before New York magazine got one final player home, leaving us with a defeat by 1 lousy point.

The after-game drinks were held at a nearby dive, where– wouldn’t you know it– a beautiful big Peter Arno New Yorker cover hung in the loo.
