More Bill Lee

In a follow-up to Steven Heller’s blog post of a couple of days ago, D.D. Degg over on The Daily Cartoonist fills in more Bill Lee puzzle pieces, but still no answer to “Whatever Happened To…Bill Lee?”

(My own interactions with Mr. Lee began and ended in the late 1970s after he, in his role as OMNI‘s cartoon editor, bought a few of my drawings).

According to The New Yorker’s database, Mr. Lee contributed two drawings to The New Yorker: the first appeared May 20, 1974, and the second, September 20, 1999. Here’s his first one:

Aimee Mann…Fledgling Cartoonist

Here’s an interesting read form The Washington Post’s Michael Cavna, “Turns Out Aimee Mann Is Really Good At Painting, Too (April 12, 2022). 

Ordinarily, the Spill doesn’t cover a lot of graphic novel/comix news unless the artist doubles as a New Yorker artist (for instance: the following entry on Liana Finck). But this story references three New Yorker artists: Emily Flake, Roz Chast, and Seth — so, Spilled it is. 

Further afield from this site’s focus…Ms. Mann’s failed President paintings are terrif.

The New York Times Reviews Liana Finck’s Let There Be Light

It’s not all that often that the paper of record reviews a book by a New Yorker cartoonist (well, lately that’s ever so slightly not the case. David Sipress’s memoir was recently reviewed). But here’s one for Liana Finck’s just published Let There Be Light.  

Ms. Finck began contributing to The New Yorker in 2013.
