The Monday Tilley Watch Takes A Glancing Look At The Art & Artists Of The Latest Issue Of The New Yorker

The Cartoonists & Cartoons: 

Thirteen cartoons, thirteen cartoonists. One duo (that we know of): Kaamran Hafeez and Helene Parsons. One newbie: Jonathan Rosen, the 9th cartoonist added to the magazine’s stable in 2022, and the 109th brought in under Emma Allen’s watch as cartoon editor (begun in May of 2017). The longest active contributor in this issue is this cartoonist.

 

In perhaps a first, there are now three cartoonists with identical last names contributing cartoons to The New Yorker: Ellis Rosen, Dan Rosen, and Jonathan Rosen. 

 

The Rea Irvin Talk Watch:

Rea Irvin (above) was in on the development of The New Yorker‘s design (and its art and its artists) before there even was a New Yorker. Let’s hope that one of his finest contributions (shown above right) is one day returned to its home atop The Talk Of The Town. It was replaced by — gasp! — a redraw in the Spring of 2017.
