The Cartoonists & Cartoons
Fourteen cartoons, fifteen cartoonists (Michael Shaw has the Caption Contest drawing). One duo effort in the issue, that we know of (the Spill counts duos as one cartoonist). There’s one newbie, Daniel Kanhai, who is the 17th new addition the cartoonist stadium this year, and the 118th cartoonist brought in since Emma Allen took the cartoon editor reins in May of 2017. The longest active New Yorker cartoonist in the issue is this cartoonist.
The Rea Irvin Talk Watch
Back in May of 2017, the above perfect design by Rea Irvin — it had been in residence for 92 years — was replaced by — gasp! — a redraw. Here’s hoping the real deal is one day returned. Read more here.
