The Monday Tilley Watch takes a glancing look at the art and artists of the latest issue of The New Yorker
The Cartoonists and Cartoons
Twelve cartoons, fourteen cartoonists (Ivan Ehlers has a Sketchpad and Barry Blitt has the cover). Two duos, that we know of. No newbies. The longest active contributing cartoonist in this issue is Mick Stevens, whose first New Yorker cartoon — this classic! — appeared in the issue of December 17, 1979.
No New Yorker cartoon library is complete without this 1989 Mick Stevens collection.

The Rea Irvin Talk Watch:
Above is Rea Irvin’s brilliant Talk design. It was in place for 92 years before being replaced — if you can believe it — by a redrawn version by a contemporary illustrator. The Spill continues to hope Mr. Irvin’s work will return. Read more here.
