The Monday Tilley Watch takes a glancing look at the art and artists of the latest issue of The New Yorker
The Cover: lights
The Cartoonists and Cartoons:
Eighteen cartoons, eighteen cartoonists. Two duos, that we know of (the Spill counts duos as one cartoonist). No newbies. The longest active contributor in this issue is Mort Gerberg, whose first New Yorker drawing appeared in the issue of April 10, 1965 (read my 2021 interview with him here).
The Cartoon Caption Contest Cartoonists: Felipe Galindo, Adam Sacks, Sofia Warren
The Rea Irvin Talk Watch:
Not too very long ago (2017), Rea Irvin’s above (perfect) Talk design was boxed up and taken away, replaced by — gasp! — a redraw. The Spill continues to hope that Mr. Irvin’s work will return.

An Auction Of Work By Pierre Le-Tan
Word of an upcoming auction at Bonhams, featuring work by the late New Yorker cover artist, Pierre Le-Tan, who contributed 18 (wonderful!) covers, from February 14, 1970 through April 27, 1987.
Here’s one of Mr. Le-Tan’s New Yorker covers:
— My thanks to The New Yorker cover artist and cartoonist, John Cuneo, for sending the catalog info this way.
