Friday Spill: February 21, 1925 – February 21, 2025

On this day, the 21st of February, the date on the very first issue of The New Yorker, I thought it would be fun to line up each anniversary issue celebrating another ten years that followed that first number. Rea Irvin’s Eustace Tilley cover was gilded in 1995, and sat out the 2005, and 2015 anniversary covers, but thankfully returned this year.

For those keeping track, Harold Ross was editor for the 1925, 1935, and 1945 anniversary issues; William Shawn was editor for the 1955, 1975, and 1985 anniversary issues; Tina Brown oversaw the gilded issue of 1995; David Remnick has been editor for the 2005, 2015 ,and 2025 anniversary issues.
