A New Fave Garrett Price New Yorker Cover
As frequent Spill visitors might recall, I spend a lot of time looking through The New Yorker‘s back issues (Why? you might ask: Because, I might answer, there’s so much to learn and enjoy from the past 99 years of the magazine). Altho I’ve seen every issue, and have looked through every issue, my focus, during these time travels, is often on a particular artist, or piece. In other words: I miss a lot. And so I’ve developed a habit of revisiting. The March 9, 1963 cover shown above, is a perfect example of my missing something: a great cover (Spring training!) by the equally great artist, Garrett Price.
Here’s Mr. Price’s A-Z entry:
Garrett Price (Pictured above. Source: Esquire Cartoon Album, 1957) Born, 1897, Bucyrus, Kansas. Died, April, 1979, Norwalk, Conn. Collection: Drawing Room Only / A Book of Cartoons (Coward -McCann, 1946). New Yorker work: 1925 -1974. More information from Alex Jay on the Stripper’s Guide
