ffolkes ffinally In The Spill Library: ffundamental ffolkes: An Autobigraphy
Not sure why it’s taken so long, but was glad to add this Michael ffolkes collection to the Spill library today. The book’s called an autobiography, but you won’t find pages of text interrupted by a graphic. What you’ll find are graphics interrupted by text. It’s really more of a sampler, covering various avenues his work went down throughout his career, with slight commentary by ffolkes sprinkled about.
The cartoonist’s New Yorker contributions are very briefly mentioned, showing just two of the ten of his published between February 26, 1979 and June 8, 1987 (ffolkes died in 1988 in his early 60s).
I like the way he introduced his New Yorker section:
“Everyone has a thwarted ambition somewhere; mine for too many years was to appear in The New Yorker.”\
