Here’s what The New Yorker‘s very first August 15th issue looked like (the artist: H.O. Hofman):

The Cartoonists & Cartoons: 

Eighteen cartoons, eighteen cartoonists. No duos (that we know of), and no newbies. The longest active contributor in the issue is Roz Chast, whose first New Yorker drawing appeared in July of 1978.

The short of it is that there was a switcheroo back in May of 2017 when Rea Irvin’s classic design (shown below) was replaced by — gasp! — a redrawn version. The Spill continues to hope that the 92 year old design is returned.
