A Spate Of Special Cartoon Collections
I’ve long had an affection for these special cartoon collections turned out by the hundreds through The New Yorker‘s Cartoon Bank in years past. These are not the “official” cartoon collections most folks are familiar with (The New Yorker Book Of Dog Cartoons, The New Yorker Book Of Cat Cartoons, etc.). These are specialty books purchased by a company or individual, reflecting their product or interest.
There was a time I thought it might be possible to collect them all! Why? Because there is no one place they are all collected (some years ago the Cartoon Bank donated to the Spill what titles it had left).
Lately, a number of special collections showed up on Ebay — I’ve only seen one of them before (The Marriott collection). It’s times like these that convince me that that goal of a complete special cartoon collection is likely impossible. I know more are out there, but I’ll never know just how many more.
