Barbara Shermund…Harvey Award Hall of Famer
It’s been a long time coming, but Barbara Shermund has finally received the kind of attention she deserves. Exhibits of her work, a New Yorker tribute by Liza Donnelly, a belated New York Times obit, a book, and now a Harvey Awards Hall of Fame inductee.
And…Look for more Shermund in Liza Donnelly’s upcoming documentary film, Women Laughing, premiering October 18th at the Woodstock Film Festival.

Latest addition To The Spill Library: The New Yorker: L’Humour Des Femmes
Liza Donnelly was gifted the above this past week while she attended the St. Just Annual Festival of International Press Cartoons. This 5″ x 7″ hardcover French collection, published in 2011, contains 300 New Yorker cartoons. It’s always fun to see New Yorker cartoons in a different language; I’ve no idea how well they translate. I’ll show you one of mine in this book (it originally appeared in The New Yorker January 26, 1998) and then show you how it appeared in the magazine. Does it work in French? Haven’t a clue. Whoever replicated my hand drawn lettering did a good job.

Yep, translates perfectly 🙂
