First And Last: Henry Martin

Another in a Spill series showing a New Yorker artist’s very first published cartoon in the magazine and their last. This time round we look at the late great Henry Martin‘s first and last. According to his daughter:

“He sold his first drawing — known as a “spot” (the small drawing inside a story) — to The New Yorker in April 1950, though it was another 14 years before he sold his first cartoon there.”
