The Barbara Shermund New Yorker Cartoon That Turned Up Later As A New Yorker “Spot” Drawing
I’ve never seen this happen before (which doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened before). A Barbara Shermund drawing that ran as a captioned cartoon in 1926, returned four years later as a “spot” drawing. Here’s how it appeared in the issue of August 28, 1926:

The original was for sale not too long ago online. You’ll notice Ms. Shermund’s handwritten caption, “Now tell me all about the engines!” differs from the published caption:
