Steinberg For Schweppes
It’s no secret that Steinberg did advertising work. But coming across adwork by Steinberg is still a little jarring.
In my continued exploration of three recent bound volumes added to the Spill library, I saw this full page Schweppes ad in the issue of June 10, 1950.
If you take the Schweppes signage out of the drawing, you’re left with a successful stand alone Steinberg drawing. The drawing improves, I think, without the advertising.
On a different track: I couldn’t help but think of two popular usages of a large hand in popular culture: Monty Python’s (Terry Gilliam’s) animated hand, and “Glove” In The Beatles animated Yellow Submarine.
