First And Last…Vahan Shirvanian
Another in the series of a New Yorker cartoonist’s very first published (New Yorker) drawing, and their last.
Vahan Shirvanian Born, Hackensack, New Jersey, 1925. Died, January 30, 2013, Mtn. Lakes, New Jersey. Won the National Cartoonists Society’s Best Gag Cartoonist of the Year Award in 1959. King Features Syndicate ran his “No Comment” in the 1970s & 80s. Worked for numerous publications, including The Saturday Evening Post, Highlights for Children, The Harvard Business Review, and Playboy. New Yorker work: 44 drawings (4 of them can be seen here on the magazine’s Cartoonbank site).
