Pub Day for Tom Toro’s Cartoon Collection
Once upon a time, non-themed New Yorker cartoon collections were a time-honored tradition in the publishing world. It was never a question of, say, if there’d be a new Sam Gross collection, it was only a matter of when.
These days, non-themed New Yorker cartoon collections are a rarity (what a pity!) So it’s worth noting that Tom Toro’s And To Think We Started As A Book Club… out today, is a return to that earlier time. True, the book is divided into sections (Life, Beasts, and Work, to name three) but that seems more of an organizational tool than a selling point (in other words, the collection’s not titled Tom Toro’s Book Of Life, Beasts, and Work Cartoons).
Here’s a personal favorite from the book:
And a reminder: if you’re in the Hudson Valley next Thursday, (October 16th), stop by Oblong Books in Rhinebeck where Tom and I will be in conversation. Information here.
