Back in the years when I was researching Peter Arno, I was on the lookout for anything Arno-related. When I came across a book that featured Arno cover art (and sometimes that was his sole contribution) I decided it was necessary to get hold of it (several of those books only came my way after the Arno biography was published. I’m showing one, Beggars Abroad, below). Most of those books are gathered together on a shelf in the Spill library (along with some others that contained more than just Arno cover art).
Bedside Tales was a bit different in that not only did Arno contribute the cover art, he wrote the introduction.
I’ve always thought it was interesting that Arno did this cover for his alma mater years after he left. (he only went to Yale for one term, before having to leave due to his father cutting off funding).
This ’39 World’s Fair food guide booklet was an early find:
Was pleased to come across this slim booklet. By the time Arno did this cover, he was already once-divorced.
This book, and one other (Whiteman’s Burden) eluded me throughout my Arno research. Was happy to finally find a copy.
