A Thurber In Many Rooms

Well here’s something a bit different for Thurber Thursday: hotel news. The “newly expanded” Hilton Hotel in downtown Columbus, Ohio is placing prints of Thurber art (the dog shown above) in many (all?) of its rooms. How great is that!

Here’s part of the pr from the hotel:

“The new 402 tower continues the Hilton Columbus Downtown’s groundbreaking commitment to local art with 233 new works by artists with central Ohio ties. Works range from simplicity — an iconic print by Columbus native James Thurber in most guest rooms…”

Read more about the hotel here.

And from another site about the hotel:

“There are 463 guest rooms in the new tower each with lovely local touches that can be found in the color palette and art collection. James Thurber’s famous “Thurber Dog with Flower” is also featured in each guest room, showcasing how dogs are ‘sound creatures in a crazy world’.”

So This Happened: Four New Yorker Cartoonists at The Brattleboro Lit Fest

From The Manchester Journal, October 17, 2022, this (too late)* news of a cartoonist panel held last Saturday, October 15th. On the panel (moderated by Hilary Price) were Ellis Rosen (who co-edited Send Help!, the desert island cartoon book shown above; Harry Bliss, who along with his idea man, actor/comedian Steve Martin, produced A Wealth Of Pigeons; David Sipress, author of the memoir, What’s So Funny?; and Sofia Warren, author of Radical: My Year With A Socialist Senator.

*Alas, my daily Google searches failed to alert me about this event until today.

Note: If you go to The Manchester Journal piece, you’ll have to go approximately midway through to get to the cartoonist panel coverage.
