Regular visitors to the Spill might recall that I love New Yorker parody issues. Here are just a few discussed on this site over the years…
You might imagine how bells and whistles went off when I came across cartoonist V. Cullum Rogers’ website devoted to parody issues. If you like parody issues — The New Yorker and beyond (Life, Playboy, MAD, etc.,etc., etc.) — you’ll find plenty here to marvel over. My “want” list has grown since visiting the site yesterday.

Mr. Rogers has very helpfully provided a link to this parody issue, from 1950, The Old Yorker, from The University of Wisconsin’s Octopus .
And here’s a link to two others that can be seen in their entirety.
Mr. Rogers also writes about Paunch, The New Yorker’s parody of Punch …you can find that here.
Further reading: Here’s a 2018 article by The Washington Post‘s Michael Cavna on V. Cullum Rogers. In the article, Mr. Cavna mentions Mr. Rogers possibly writing a book on the history of magazine parody. Hope that’s in the works!
