Thurber Around The Globe
A favorite Thurber-centric book here at Spill headquarters — and one I’ve cited a number of times — is Edwin T. Bowden’s James Thurber: A Bibliography (Ohio State Press, 1968). I was looking through the very end of it the other day when I came across the “Translations” section. I’ve happened upon Thurber books in other languages before while cruising around the internet, but for some reason never used Bowden to guide me. So I typed in a few titles on Abebooks and here’re some results (with an extra non-listed Bowden title at the end):
From Sweden, Den Sista Blomman (The Last Flower), published in 1948:
From Italy, La Notte Degli Spiriti (selections from The Thurber Carnival), 1948:
From Germany, Rette Sich, Wer Kann! (selections from The Thurber Carnival), 1948.
France: Votre Chien (How to Raise A Dog: In The City, by James Kinney and Ann Honeycutt; illustrations by Thurber) 1954.
Spain: Es necesario el sexo? 2006. James Thurber & E.B. White
