No matter how many times I look through ancient issues of The New Yorker, I always come across something surprising (I miss things no matter how many times I look at an issue). I can’t explain how I missed the ad below that appeared in the issue of January 4th 1936. It features Thurber’s classic drawing, “What have you done with Dr. Millmoss?” (the drawing was originally published in The New Yorker issue of July 14, 1934).
I’ve written about Millmoss enough times to perhaps qualify it as most mentioned drawing in the Spill‘s history. And here I am mentioning it again. Accurately described as “one of the 228 laughs” to be found in The Seventh New Yorker Album, but here at the Spill, it’s so much more.

Ain’t These Sweet?
Here’re some fun Thurber items found on Ebay (I’m not going to direct you to the sellers. Just enter “Thurber dog cup” or “Thurber dog plate” into the search box).
