Next up in the Spill‘s First & Last: a look at James Mulligan’s first New Yorker cartoon, and…well, you know.
Mr. Mulligan’s a bit of a mystery to me. You would think that for someone — in this case a veteran New Yorker cartoonist — with 501 published cartoons in the magazine, there might be, at the least, an interview or article out there (at the very least, an obit). There is a great photograph of him (here) taken by Anne Hall Elser in Woodstock, New York. Anne worked as assistant editor to The New Yorker‘s Art/Cartoon editor, Lee Lorenz for more than two decades. Her website’s photographs of a good number of the magazine’s cartoonists is a real treat.
