Friday Spill: $5,000.00 For An Entire Run Of The New Yorker’s First Year…Deal, Or No Deal?

Yesterday I talked about scrolling through Ebay listings looking for unknown Thurber related materials (and materials connected with other New Yorker cartoonists as well).

Another pastime of mine is scrolling through the AbeBooks site looking for anything odd/unknown/rare from The New Yorker. Recently I found something(s) rare… and expensive: an entire run of The New Yorker‘s first year collected in two bound volumes. The cost: $5,000.00. That’s a whole lot of moolah for sure.

Dividing the $5,000.00 by 52 issues, the cost per issue is $96.15. Is $96.15 per issue a deal, or not.

Currently on Ebay there are two first issues of The New Yorker being offered at “buy it now” prices of $4,499.99 and $3,999.99. Keep in mind that’s the cost for just the one issue (the most desirable issue in the magazine’s history). A single copy from later that year –the issue of the July 11, 1925 — is being offered for $1,200.00 (or best offer).

I’ll be staying far far away from the “Add to basket” button on the seller’s page.  Although I must say that shipping is only 7 bucks. Deal!
