The Spill’s Two All-Time Fave Thanksgiving Cartoons
(Thurber Thursday will return next week).
There are so so many Thanksgiving New Yorker cartoons — I could easily make a long list of the personal favorites. There are two though that reliably come to mind every year at this time, or even at the mention of Thanksgiving any time during the year. The first is by James Thurber. It appeared in The New Yorker issue of November 28, 1936. I’m showing the original art here (it was part of an auction last year). For more Thurber, go here.
My other all-time fave New Yorker Thanksgiving cartoon is by Bob Eckstein. It appeared in The New Yorker November 26, 2012. (my thanks to Bob for allowing it to appear here every year. Visit his newsletter, The Bob, for his special Thanksgiving post.)

Finally, here’s the Spill traditional posting of one of my own cartoons. I associate it with Thanksgiving even though it was published in The New Yorker October 16th (2006). It’s here in memory of my father-in-law, who loved his Thanksgiving football games.

When I think of your work, this football gag invariably comes to mind. It’s a gem.
Brilliant, both of you, Bob and Michael.
