Talk Of Interest: Liza Donnelly At The New York Public Library

Liza Donnelly, who began contributing to The New Yorker in 1979, will be speaking at The New York Public Library, December 18th. According to the NYPL’s website, Ms. Donnelly will discuss “…the research that shaped her work on the women cartoonists who helped shape The New Yorker.” Info here

Bill Mahrer’s Guest,  John Malkovich “Decodes” A (Familiar To Me) New Yorker Cartoon 

On the November 30, 2025 Bill Mahrer “Decoding New Yorker Cartoon” episode, the guest was actor John Malkovich. For each episode, Mr. Mahrer asks his guest to pick a drawing out of a bowl, describe it, and then tell us the caption.  I usually try to guess what drawing is being “decoded” before the caption’s revealed. I’m not always successful. But in this case, as Mr. Malkovich rolled out his very detailed description (speaking as only he can speak), it slowly dawned on me he was describing a drawing of mine that appeared in The New Yorker,  April 4, 2010:
