Follow up On CartoonStock’s AI Comics Generator
A follow up to yesterday’s Spill post about CartoonStock’s use of what it calls “Ai-generated cartoons and comics.” The Spill has seen an email sent out yesterday late afternoon by CartoonStock to CartoonStock cartoonists with the heading, “Clarification on AI and CartoonStock’s Commitment to Cartoonists”.
The email begins:
“We’ve received some concerned messages regarding the recent addition of an AI cartoon generator on the CartoonStock site. A few cartoonists have expressed strong feelings about this, and we want to take those concerns seriously, as our first priority has always been to support cartoonists and put their interests first.”
According to the email, “The AI Tool has now been removed.” However, as of Saturday morning, the page promoting AI generated cartoons is still on the site. You can see it here.
The CartoonStock email also stated:
“AI was not used to generate single-panel cartoons.”
[Update: in an earlier post I noted that the AI cartoons shown on the CartoonStock page devoted to AI cartoons were possibly generated by AI. It has been suggested that these 22 single panel cartoons were created by humans. The introductory text does not identify them as such. If they have been, I stand corrected]
