New Yorker Cartoon Collection of Interest: Ice Breakers : A New Yorker Book of Cartoons

The above cover caught my attention when posted on Stephen Nadler’s Attempted Bloggery the other day. There are a lot — a whole lot — of custom New Yorker cartoon collections out there but this one, published in 2005, is as Mr. Nadler notes, slightly different than the others. Read about it here.

Below: The Index Of Artists from Ice Breakers, courtesy of Attempted Bloggery. Usually these Indexes are accurate, but this one has at least one omission (it’s missing one cartoonist — alright, it’s me –whose work is included). When I get hold of a copy I’ll dig into it and see if there are any more).

The maestro of Attempted Bloggery forwarded this photo from last night’s book event at Books Are Magic celebrating the publication of Liza Donnelly illustrated, Be The Person Your Dog Thinks You Are.  She was joined in conversation by New Yorker colleague, Carolita Johnson (on the left, with dog on lap).

–My thanks to Stephen Nadler for the photo

An Addams Rarity on Attempted Bloggery

Here’s something new to my eyes. Posted this morning on Stephen Nadler’s Attempted Bloggery: a brochure for an exhibit of Addams work at the National Academy of Design in the Fall of 1991. Mr. Nadler informs us:  “…in more than a quarter century since the show, no one else has posted this leaflet on the internet…so I thought I’d take the liberty.” See the entire piece here (it includes an essay by Adam Gopnik and a short intro by the exhibit’s curator, Barbara Nicholls).

Interview Of Interest: Peter Kuper; More Steinberg on Attempted Bloggery

Interview Of Interest: Peter Kuper

Here’s a recent interview from The Drunken Odyssey A Podcast About The Writing Life, with Peter Kuper, who began contributing to The New Yorker in June of 2011. Mr. Kuper’s latest book, Kafkaesque: Fourteen Stories was noted in The New York Times’ New & Noteworthy column of September 18th.
