The New Yorker section of the upcoming Swann auction is an awful lot of fun. The Addams cover shown above is just one of the gems listed. To see the “3D catalog” go here. Other New Yorker artists whose work is going under the gavel include Charles Barsotti, Bemelmans, Abe Birnbaum, Whitney Darrow, Jr., Richard Decker, Ed Fisher, Heidi Goennel, Edward Gorey, Theodore Haupt, John Held, Jr., Helen Hokinson, Maira Kalman, Arnie Levin, Rick Meyerowitz, Bill Mauldin, Donald Reilly, Mischa Richter, Arnold Roth, Charles Saxon, Ronald Searle, Seth, Steinberg, Tom Toro, and Gahan Wilson.
Eight more cartoonists have been added to Ink Spill’s “One Club” on this 4th of July. One Club members contributed just one drawing (cartoon) to The New Yorker in their careers. Their names have been added to “The New Yorker Cartoonists A-Z” section of this site. As in yesterday’s batch of new members, one name is quite familiar, but (perhaps) not usually associated with The New Yorker: Bill Mauldin. Another artist, Pierre Le-Tan is likely very familiar to New Yorker readers as a cover artist for the magazine (he has contributed 18 covers). Here’s a link to his (translated) Wikipedia entry.
Today’s new members: Ralph Lane, Pierre Le-Tan, Robert Lennen, Monroe Leung, Peter Lippman, Robert Love, Robert Malone, and Bill Mauldin
