Coming in '09: The New Yorker Book of Stock Market Cartoons; A note on The New Yorker Cartoon Yearbook 2008

Barnes & Noble has listed The New Yorker Book of Stock Market Cartoons for publication April 28, 2009 ( no image yet available).  The book is another in the line of New Yorker cartoon collections produced by Andrews McMeel. A note on The New Yorker Cartoon Yearbook 2008:   The second volume of the Cartoon Yearbook series  has arrived in the mails and although I usually don't push product, I will say that the Cartoon Bank has done a really fine job with this volume. To describe the contents in a nutshell I've  borrowed this from the flap copy: "Between September 2007 and September 2008, nearly a thousand cartoons were published in The New Yorker. The New Yorker Cartoon Yearbook 2008 convenes the 'best in the class'; 352 of the editors' favorites..."

Previous to  the 2007 and 2008 Yearbooks, there were only three New Yorker annuals published -- they were called "albums" back then:   The 1937 New Yorker Album (with a cover by William Crawford Galbraith originally published as a New Yorker cover, December 14, 1935),  The 1940 New Yorker Album (with a cover by Peter Arno, originally published as a New Yorker cover, January 15, 1938), and  The 1942 New Yorker Album (with a cover by Perry Barlow, originally published as a New Yorker cover, December 23, 1939).

The 2008 Yearbook is available through the Cartoon Bank: www.cartoonbank.com/product_details.asp

You can see scans of the 1937, 1940, and 1942 Album jackets  as well as scans of all The New Yorker Album jackets by heading over to  Chris Wheeler's great site:  www.pbase.com/csw62/the_new_yorker

Happy New Year to all!
